A Word About Wood Naming
As you navigate our collection of canes you will find a nearly endless variety of different wood species. We have never actually counted but it is likely we have around 200 different species of wood In our raw materials inventory.
Most people, us included, refer to species by their common names but sometimes we refer to wood using the scientific name, here is an example: African Blackwood is a common name for the species Dalbergia Melanoxylon. Some of the rarest woods we offer are so obscure that they don’t even have a common name. Lanceolaria is one example.
Scientific names are important when dealing with the rarest and most obscure species we offer, you will occasionally see the scientific name under “materials” in our product listings. Common names can be misleading at times because species will have a different common name depending on the country and culture. Common names can also group together several unique but closely related species. We like to be as specific as possible to celebrate every nuance.
