Siamese Rosewood and Ebony Cane
Siamese Rosewood and Ebony Cane
An exquisite, handmade cane, this piece has a special handle made out of curl figured Siamese rosewood with a rich red color. Siamese rosewood is extremely rare these days, and its one of the most coveted woods in the world, particularly in China. It’s a very chatoyant wood and the curl figure accentuates the effect. Under light the curls dance back and forth as the cane is moved. There are even more curls than the still images capture, its covered with them. This example is exhibition grade grain; wood like this is extra rare, there might only be a one little spot on a tree that will have grain with curl like this, if at all. Typically, if figure like this can be found, it comes from the bottom of the tree or even the root system. The divider of the cane has silvery aluminum and bloodwood burl with complementing color and fine grain. Its finished with a very nice ebony shaft, though very dark it has tight stripe figured grain and broad fiddleback along its length, some of my best striped ebony. The ebony appears chocolate brown in most lighting conditions, but direct light or sunlight will reveal its great grain and a fine chatoyance. Its striped are actually more apparent in person than the dark pictures suggest. Cane weight is Medium towards being heavy, good for daily use by most anyone. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
