Purple Acacia Cane
Purple Acacia Cane
This beauty is my second cane using a wood species I had been trying to acquire for years, and was finally able to acquire in the summer of 2022. The handle is "purple acacia" or acacia carnei, which grows in arid, remote parts of the Australian outback, it's little more than a shrub that grows slowly on the edge of existence. Extremely obscure. But the wood is a beautiful purple color with lovely chatoyance and is remarkably dense. My Australian contact drove thousands of KM in search of this wood, finally he found a small stand of them where he sustainably salvage harvested material for me from dead trees. The handle has some birdseye figure as well adding to its rarity and the interest in the grain. The shaft is curl figured Mexican royal ebony, a very tough and durable wood with a slight purple hue that compliments this cane perfectly. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
