Mun Ebony and Narra Cane
Mun Ebony and Narra Cane
This piece is a display-worthy cane loaded from top to bottom with rare and amazing natural materials. Starting at the top is a handle of Mun ebony with burl figured grain - or its birdseye, I couldn’t distinguish definitively, either way its a special piece of a very rare ebony species. Mun ebony is now a critically endangered species and trade prohibited, only very old pieces are around for sale these days.
In the divider is something special, a large section of prime muskox horn. Of all the horns, tusks, teeth, and ivory I’ve seen, muskox horn has ALL of them beaten, easily, its the most beautiful and “figured”. Like curly wood, muskox horn near where it attaches to the anumal’s skull has curl pattern that’s very 3D looking, accentuated by the fact that the horn is partly translucent with white bands that are not. I would use Muskox horn regularly in my work if I could, but its very difficult to find.
Finally, the shaft. Its Narra wood from Vietnam, and its grain is so figured it looks like it could be a sold burl wood shaft under close inspection! From the sides the shaft looks light burly, swirly grain with curl effect present, then on the front the back the curl effect takes over and its highly defined with less swirly grain. This is the best figured Narra wood I’ve ever see or offered.
Cane weight is Medium. It would make a good for daily user by most anyone, but certainty fancy enough for special occasions. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
