Gidgee and Lignum Cane

$900.00

Here’s the next generation’s heirloom, fresh from the maker; this handmade walking cane has two of the densest and heaviest woods in the world. The handle is gidgee wood with an incredible curl figured grain. Gidgee is basically tired with genuine lignum vitae for the densest wood in the world, but typically considered second to it. Its a rare tree and rarer still as available timber, rarer yet with such extravagant grain. The Gidgee tree, Acacia Cambagei, is a small, stunted, arid region tree that grows on the fringe of the Australian outback. The last image shows a gidgee tree. I’m happy that most all of my Australian woods are salvage harvested from dead trees.

In the divider is a centerpiece of muskox horn from Alaska, a rare and beautiful piece of nature, and finished with some eye-catching brass. The shaft is another rare tree, also on the list of densest and heaviest woods, its lignum, or more accurately named “verawood”. Its a close relative and very similar to genuine lignum, but a different tree that has a more feathery grain, greener color, not quite as dense, and though still very rare and expensive its more attainable than genuine lignum.

This is a heavy cane, users of small stature my tire with use. A great daily use cane, it should prove to be a durable walking companion. Also probably a great self defense cane.
