Dragon's Blood Burl Cane
Dragon's Blood Burl Cane
This heirloom quality cane is a rare opportunity to own an amazing wood called "dragon's blood" This species is extremely rare, but burl wood is much rarer even still. Its an endemic species from an other worldly island that’s off the coast of Yemen in the Arabian sea, Socotra island. Lace figured Sheoak wood makes for a colorful shaft with very interesting wood grain, one of my top favorite woods. In the divider is Siam Rosewood burl - super rare! with brass and thin Sheoak. This piece is very special but its perfectly functional and should be used and enjoyed. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
The last image is of a Dragon's Blood Tree (Dracaena cinnabari).
In the past I've used my stand oil finish that I love and trust on Dragon's blood burl, but results were always below standards. It's a challenging wood to finish because its an extremely oily wood naturally. On this piece I've tried lacquer finish, and its probably the best result I've ever had on dragon's blood burl.
