The Greater Bird of Paradise
The Greater Bird of Paradise
A piece from the “feather collection” of summer 2022; avian inspired canes implying motion and flight.
The pride of the feather collection, this piece has the most carving, the largest handle, the rarest wood, and ancient bone. The wood is Dalbergia Bariensis, an obscure rosewood from S. E. Asia, so rare that is only has its Latin scientific name. In the cane are several different kinds of figures. The handle is crotch figured with long chatoyant curls along the sides where the carvings are. The actual sides of the handle have birdseye figure. Finally the shaft is the most figured shaft I have ever used out of any rosewood species, complete with fine curl, black lines, and birdseye. Whoa! Last but not least, the divider is ancient bone excavated from the north sea. There will never be another cane like this one. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
