Lignum Vitae and Satinwood Bird Cane
Lignum Vitae and Satinwood Bird Cane
This bird cane features the densest wood in the world, Guayacan (genuine lignum vitae). Guayacan is the densest of several related wood species that all carry the common name "lignum". The handle is mostly heartwood, the dead, center portion of the tree that provides structure for the plant with a little bit of artistically incorporated yellow sapwood. Sapwood was the living part of the tree under the bark, in some species there is a marked visual distinction, such as in Lignum. Genuine lignum is a highly protected species and its wood is very rare, only old stock is available that was harvested long ago, its a privilege to offer it in my work. The divider is bright, golden brass leading into a Ceylon satinwood shaft that is lightly figured. Another rare wood, Ceylon satinwood is an heirloom quality timber with a world-wide reputation for it's gorgeous, chatoyant grain - which gave it its name. Total length measures 38" Tall and can be shortened to fit.
