The Great Egret
The Great Egret
A piece from the “feather collection” of summer 2022; avian inspired canes implying motion and flight.
This heirloom quality cane is handcrafted using elegant holly wood, the whitest wood in the world. Holly isn't especially uncommon, but it's a challenging process to get usable timber because they are small trees and often scraggly tress with countless knots and branches. It's harder still to keep the wood pure and white; it must be cut in the winter when the tree is dormant, then immediately vacuum kiln dried, otherwise the wood takes on a dirty grey color. This cane is designed with both aesthetics and comfort in mind, It's the best of both worlds: a work of art that is comfortable. The divider is a very special piece of the best quality ancient woolly mammoth tusk. This rarity from the last ice age is at least 10,000 years old and was excavated from the permafrost near Fairbanks Alaska. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
