Hainan Rosewood, Pink Ivory, Mammoth Cane

$2,250.00

This Museum-worthy walking cane features a figured Hainan rosewood handle. This rosewood is the most expensive wood in the entire world, even bead sized pieces of Hainan rosewood can sell for hundreds of dollars - it is quite precious. Its scarcity is the result of high demand for centuries leading the species to near extinction. Hainan rosewood was the wood of choice of the Chinese emperor's furniture for several dynasties. Such pieces only exist in museums today. Very little Hainan rosewood was ever exported outside of China so it is quite exciting to be able to offer this cane. This particular piece of Hainan rosewood has curl figure in it making it rarer and its chatoyant qualities even more accentuated - Wow!

The divider is another awesome piece of natrual history, its molar from the extinct woolly mammoth! This piece of tooth was found in the Siberian permafrost, where it had been held in the icy ground for tens of thousands of years. The ice is an excellent preserver, so when these millennia old fossils are found they can be very well preserved. It is flanked by copper and thin purpleheart.

The shaft is yet another stand-out piece of exotic wood., its pink ivory wood from S. Africa. Pink Ivory is one also a rare wood and very expensive, so rare that historically the Zulu king of S. Africa would have anyone in possession of the wood put to death, only the king was allowed to possess it. Pink Ivory is judged by the depth of it's color and this shaft has the best watermelon pink with light curl figure throughout, and a nice chatoyancy. This is only my third cane offering with a pink ivory shaft in my cane-making career, its a hard wood to find in both good quality and larger sizes.

A really stand-out cane, even for my work. Respectable weight, but not too heavy, could be used by anyone. Daily use functional but worthy of display! Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
