"Ancient" in bog oak.
"Ancient" in bog oak.
This ancient cane has a Ukrainian Bog Oak handle and a shaft of walnut wood from Peru. The ancient bog oak wood is approximately 5,000 years old! Wood like this is called "sinker" wood. An oak tree lived a typical life span but when it died and fell it was covered in peat moss or fell into a bog, both of which create an oxygen deprived environment that perfectly preserved the wood. But the oak does absorb minerals from its surroundings and the result after thousands of years is a dark color. This bog oak is a dark warm grey. On the right side of the shaft underneath the divider is a wood-burned detail, which spells "Ancient" using Anglo Saxon runes. I had to dust off my wood burner! its not often I get it out anymore. A good daily use cane, medium weight cane, towards the lighter end, could be used by anyone. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
